Interesting finds in my family tree
~ I live on my family farm in Severance, Colorado with my Grandma and my aunt and uncle. My Great Great Grandparents, Louise Shaffer and Christ Ehrlich, came to the USA from Russia and settled in Windsor, Colorado on the farm. They then gave the farm to my Great Grandparents, Paul Ehrlich and Alice Provancha, as a wedding present. When they got old they gave the farm to my Grandma Joyce and Grandpa Tim. My grandma is still the owner until this day. I presume that when my grandma passes she will give it, split equaly, to her two children, my mother and my uncle. My brother and cousins and I are the fifth generation to live on the Johnson Family Farm.
~ My Great Great Grandpa Christ Ehrlich Immigrated to the USA from Russia and Germany with his family. At that time Great Gramndpa Paul was 8 years old. After long travels they arrived in New York at Ellis Island. When they got their Paul had become sick. The immigration policy was that if one of the immigrants was sick, they could not be let into the USA. But if the person became healthy after being quarantined, they could be let in. So Paul, being 8 years old mind you, had to stay there, by himself. The rest of his family had to go on with out him and Paul would come on his own after he was healthy. So that meant he traveled from New York to Windsor, Colorado at the age of 8 all by himself and made it just fine. Amazing!!
~ My Great Great Grandpa Anton Lowndes immigrated to the USA from Sweden. He ended up in Marinette, Wisconsin with his family. Anton's origional name was Anton Johan Johanson (pronounced in english as Johnson). Anton worked as a house painter and Kalsominer (which is someone who hand carves crown molding). When he lived in Marinette, Wisconsin at this time, there were many different Johnson families. So Anton thought he was losing business because of his last name. Because of this he decided to change his last name to Lowndes. He had randomly chosen this name because there was no one in Wisconsin with that name. This is how my last name came to be.
